SMS Instrument distal & cutter used to cut metal strips or wire used in orthodontic work. Delicate cutter specially designed for the removal of soft stainless steel ligatures. The instrument cut wire close to the buccal tube and safety holds the distal end. The distal end cutter is capable of cutting arch wires up to 0.21” x 0.25” both intraoral and extra oral method. It is used exclusively for cutting the distal end of wire protruding out of the moral tubes. It had a safety mechanism to hold the cut arch wires so it does not fall into the patient’s mouth. TC instruments are designed to stay sharp for a significantly longer period of time than other standard instruments.

Orthodontic Distal & Cutters
A Dental Orthodontic Distal & cutters have two cutting surfaces at right angles to the long axis of the instrument. These are used for intra oral cutting of the terminal end of a ligated arch wire. They will also catch and hold the cut end of the arch wire, thus preventing the loose end of the wire from injuring the patient.Comprised of two cutting surfaces angled to the right of the instrument’s axis, distal end cutters are used to slice through and remove the terminal end of a ligated arch wire. Distal end cutter orthodontic pliers are used for wire cutting when the dentist treatment of braces.
Tungsten Carbide Distal & Cutter is made out of stainless steel. The gripping portion of the jaws have two pieces (inserts) made out of the metal tungsten carbide. The tungsten carbide inserts are a harder metal
than stainless steel. TC instruments are designed to stay sharp for a significantly longer period of time than other standard instruments. TC instruments are identified by gold handles.
